Get ready for the next-gen Ford Ranger pickup

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s no secret that Ford is working on the next-generation Ford Ranger pickup truck but until now, we did not have any idea about what it will look like and what off-roading capabilities it will have. Well, here comes the first official teaser video of the upcoming Ranger that has “Tested to the Extreme” according to the automaker. Ford Europe released the clip on its YouTube channel showcasing the “NextGenRanger” prototype playing in the dirt, mud, and snow.

The teaser video also accompanied an important announcement that the new Ford Ranger will make its debut later this fall with sales to be commenced from next year. 

If we talk about the looks of the revamped pickup, the clip does not show a whole lot as the vehicle remains tightly covered and camouflaged by claddings. However, we can decode some of the designing cues. The front fascia of the pickup looks more rounded reminiscent of the new Ford Maverick, the door mirrors appear larger, and the hood seems taller.  The headlights are most likely having a C-clamp-inspired design just like the F-150.

In the 1 minute 19 seconds video teaser, Ford shows off the upcoming Ranger potential in tackling various types of tricky terrains. We can see the truck drifting through a giant mud patch, scaling dunes at high speeds, climbing up and down on steep rocky grades, and rushing down a snow-covered road. It gives us an idea about the vehicle’s suspension articulation and versatility.

Regarding the next-gen Ford Ranger engine specs, the automaker still keeps numb, although some previous reports mentioned sharing the engine choices with the new Ford Bronco as the two vehicles underpin the same platform.
