Omoda | Jaecoo to launch 6 new models by 2028; Entry-level SUV, pickup trucks and J9 SUV confirmed

KUALA LUMPUR: At a special business summit held in Wuhu, China, commemorating its production milestone surpassing 1 million units, Omoda | Jaecoo – the premium sub-brand of Chery – also revealed plans to introduce six new models over the next three years.

Shawn Xu, CEO of Omoda | Jaecoo International, detailed the plan on stage during the said summit, which sees two models earmarked to wear the Omoda badge, whilst a further four will be badged as Jaecoo products instead. By 2028, these additions will see the sub-brand boast a global line-up of 13 vehicles.

Xu remained vague in terms of details, but the hints and product positioning the exec gave, plus the analysis of the model codes used, tell us plenty. Firstly, both Omoda and Jaecoo will each see a brand-new Omoda 2 and Jaecoo J3 entry-level offerings to slot below their existing Omoda 4 (C4) and Jaecoo J5 models.

Next, based on the T1QC (Omoda), T11TP and KP31 (Jaecoo) chassis codes presented, the sub-brand is also set to debut a range of luxury pick-up trucks – its first, in fact. All will certainly be derivatives based on the Himla pick-up truck developed and mass-produced by parent Chery.

Lastly comes a brand-new flagship model – likely an SUV – that will be badged as the Jaecoo J9. Details for which remain scarce at present, but expect it to serve a similar capacity to the brand, things like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS at least.
