Peugeot aims to become fully electric car brand by 2030 in Europe

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in July, the parent company of Peugeot, Stellantis announced a larger transition away from internal combustion engine models with the introduction of four BEV-centric platforms. In line with that, every Stellantis brand will go fully electric sooner or later. And, here comes Peugeot’s deadline for full electrification, although it is only for the European market as of now.

    To achieve this target, Peugeot is currently focused on bringing the electric equivalent of the 308 hatchback by 2023. It has also planned to unveil the next-gen 3008 crossover in electric version. Currently, the brand retails 208 and 2008 electric vehicles, the former comprises a share of 20% of the company’s fully electric car sales.

    Well, Peugeot is not the first Stellantis brand, which announced its electrification plans as Opel, Alfa Romeo and DS are also set to become fully electric. Opel or Vauxhall will transition all its models into EVs by 2028, Alfa Romeo by 2027, and DS by 2026.

    For this huge transition, Stellantis has planned to invest an amount of more than €30 billion (approximately equal to RM 142 billion). Its four battery electric vehicle platforms include STLA Small with a range of 500 km, STLA Medium with 700 km, STLA Large with 800 km, and STLA Frame with 800 km. These are designed with a high level of flexibility and component sharing, to deliver economies of scale. Each architecture can support the manufacturing of around two million units per year, as per the automaker.
