Revealed: Mercedes-Benz C118 AMG CLA35 4Matic ahead of its public debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has revealed the performance AMG 35 model for the second generation C118 CLA. The car is going to make its public debut at the 2019 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), which will commence on 19th April and end on 29th April.

The car has been revealed online via trailer video, which the company posted a couple of days back. It boasts the vehicle’s powertrain abilities and the feature-packed interiors. Also, the car gets a roofline that draws a fair degree of similarity to CLS450 AMG Line.

At the front, it features the traditional trapezoidal grille flanked by triangular LED headlights. The LED units get L-shaped daytime running lights (DRL), followed by the bonnet that receives several strikes. The side profiles are clean with less to speak about and finally bringing the spectator to the rear end. The rear flaunts narrow LED taillights, which have half of its part on the boot lid. The boot lid also gets a spoiler for better aerodynamics. At last, the bottom end gets a large and bold bumper with an integration of dual exhaust outlets.

Peeking inside, one would come across a large display behind the new-generation power steering wheel. The MBUX infotainment system has two displays - one serves as an instrument cluster while other is the infotainment panel. Below that, there are triple turbine-shaped air vents with accents of red along the rim. It gets the Mercedes-Benz User Experience that has AI abilities for smart interaction and can be operated via ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice command. Moreover, a user can choose between five different drive modes, namely Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual.

For comfort, the vehicle equips MacPherson strut unit at the front and a multi-link setup at the back, while the braking requirements are taken care of by an all-disc layout.

Under the bonnet, there is an M260 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which delivers a maximum power of 302 hp at 5,800 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm within a rev range of 3,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. The drive is sent to all the wheels (which is also variable) via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
