Smart #1 EV to come in three variants; est. price begins at RM 200k

KUALA LUMPUR: The German EV maker ‘smart’ has buckled up to cause a stir in the Malaysian electric vehicle market. After launching the “Hello smart app” last week, it has now started accepting bookings for its first electric car, the smart #1

    The smart #1 Pro features a chic design with low drag 19" Alloy Wheels and a Panoramic Halo Roof. It comes powered by a 272 PS/343 Nm RWD electric motor and a 49-kWh LFP battery pack, offering a WLTP-claimed driving range of 315 km.

    The smart #1 Premium sets itself apart with an Illuminated front grille, CyberSparksLED + Matrix headlamps, and a bigger 66kWh NMC battery that lets the EV run for 440 km on a single charge.

    The smart #1 BRABUS, on the other hand, is a high-performance supercar that boasts a striking exterior design and an elevated interior. It is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain generating a maximum power of 428 PS and 543 Nm, enabling the car to run from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds. 

    Just like the Premium version, the Brabus trim is also equipped with a 66kWh NMC battery, which offers a range of 400 km.

    Alongside opening the EV’s ordering books, smart has also signed an enhanced Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with PROTON in China. For those who are not aware, Proton’s subsidiary Pro-net is the official importer and distributor of smart EVs for Malaysia and Thailand. 

    The event was graced by Dr Li Chunrong, CEO, PROTON, Roslan bin Abdullah, Deputy CEO, PROTON, and Malaysian delegates including representatives from MITI, MIDA, MGTC and MARii.
