Production phase of BMW M8 Series is underway
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has made way for the new BMW M8 Coupe production line. Now if you are wondering when the company started working on it? Things might seem a little confusing as the manufacturer kept on releasing different models and variants of the 8 Series, which were the successor of the 6 series. Finally, it has announced the powerful M8 production.
An early prototype model of the BMW M8 Coupe has been spotted at the Estoril Grand Prix racing circuit in Portugal. The model is going through final checking and testing. Hence, it is quite clear that the model is in the final phase of the development process.
The performance-oriented vehicle will come with a low centre of gravity, optimum wheelbase, wide tracks, even weight distribution and minimised weight.
Furthermore, the M-specific optimisation enhances the levels of rigidity in the body structure, chassis mounting and other components. The suspension offers great cornering dynamics, exceptional directional stability and impressive steering precision.
The vehicle will get the same engine as the M5 - a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which is capable of pumping out a maximum power of 609 PS along with a peak torque of 750 Nm. An eight-speed automatic transmission is there to send power to all four wheels. However, in some necessary conditions, the power will only be sent to rear wheels, just like in the M5. It will be the first M car from the manufacturer to have two doors and an all-wheel drive.
The BMW M8 will come in 2019 with coupe body style and a convertible will join the lineup soon after. Though we have not got much information about the chassis and the suspension department, it looks like the vehicle should be a good choice for the driveway.
