Top Safety Pick award given to 2019 Hyundai Veloster

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new 2019 Hyundai Veloster is the recipient of the Top Safety Pick award that is given by the Insurance Institute Highway Safety (IIHS). Telling you a bit about the gravity of the situation, it is one of the most demanding crash tests in the industry. The award was given to the Veloster trim equipped with premium LED headlights (built post-2018).

Apart from the new Veloster, there are eleven Hyundai cars bestowed with the Top Safety Pick award. Included in the list are - Tucson, Accent, Sonata, Elantra, Santa Fe XL, Elantra GT, Santa Fe, Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid, Kona, and Ioniq Hybrid.

In both the standard and optional front crash prevention systems, the Veloster scored high, avoiding collisions in the track tests at 19 kmph and 40 kmph, respectively.

According to IIHS, it is a big honour for a car to be awarded the Top Safety Pick trophy. And with Hyundai’s eleven models receiving the award, thus making it the highest in the industry, is a pretty big deal.

A car must have an excellent rating in head restraint, driver-side small overlap front, roof strength, and moderate overlap front & side tests to qualify as a 2019 Top Safety Pick. Further, an average or good score is necessary for passenger-side small overlap front test, headlight, and front crash prevention is essential.
