Toyota Land Cruiser waiting period is now around four years

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota introduced the new generation Land Cruiser 300 last year in June. The upgraded SUV caused a stir in the automotive world not only because of its rugged character and tech but also due to a ban on its resale. There has been a strong demand for the upgraded Land Cruiser and Toyota seems struggling to keep up with demand amid supply-chain disruptions. It issued an apology regarding the SUV’s long waiting list.

The automaker’s Japanese website states that the delivery time of the new Toyota Land Cruiser is now around four years. 

“Thank you for considering and ordering our vehicle. We sincerely apologise for the fact that [the> Land Cruiser has been very well received not only in Japan but also around the world, and it is expected that it will take a long time to deliver it after receiving an order. The delivery time for ordering from now on may be about four years. We will do our utmost to shorten the delivery time of our customers, and we appreciate your understanding,” the automaker’s statement reads.

Well, the company has not mentioned any reason for the long waiting period, but we figure out that the shortage of semiconductor chips and the recent production halt in Japan due to the new COVID-19 variant are contributing to the delay.  

Popular for its go-anywhere capabilities and strong body structure, the new LC 300 Is based on a new GA-F platform, which is stiffer yet lighter. For the new model, the automaker also ditched the muscular V8 powertrains in favour of smaller and more efficient twin-turbo V6 petrol and diesel mills.

Included in the new engine options are a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 unit delivering a maximum power output of 415 PS and a peak torque of 650 Nm and a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 good for making 309 PS and 700 Nm. Both units are paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system.

Contributing to the SUV’s performance are a reworked suspension system, terrain modes, a terrain view monitor, and advanced driver aids.

The price of the new Toyota Land Cruiser starts at JPY 5,100,000 in the home market, which is approximately equal to RM 187,472.
