Upcoming 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor spied in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: It has been known for a while that the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor will make a debut sooner than later. And making the deal real are the recent spied images of the pickup clicked in Thailand.

The upcoming performance version of the Ranger Raptor was obviously camouflaged via geometric pattern, however, the revisions are apparent. For instance, the plastic body cladding is pronounced with thicker fender arch mouldings and model-specific magnesium side steps. Though the prototype currently misses the rear box step, we are pretty sure it will be available on the production model.

Other additions on the 2023 Ranger Raptor include - 20-inch wheels, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree surround sound view camera system, LED combination tail lights. Also, being the range-topping model in the midsize pickup range, it is expected to come equipped with a digital display and a full suite of advanced driving aids.

What engine will power the upcoming Ranger Raptor?

Ford has not shared any engine yet, however, reports suggest that the automaker will not go with the ongoing 2.0-litre biturbo mill. However, as per one of Ford’s executives, Mustang’s 5.0-litre Coyote V8 might be shoehorned into the Ranger Raptor. The Wildtrak’s 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel also seems to be a good choice.

Other power plants deployed for the new Ford are the upgraded 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine and the 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost mill.

Will we have an electrified Ranger?

Ford is tight-lipped about Ranger’s electrification plan, however, the reworked T6 platform is future-ready and can be electrified.

Ford is expected to reveal more technical details about the upcoming Ranger Raptor in the coming months. So, stay tuned.
