Things we like

The Proton Saga is fairly big for a car of its price. The overall length and width of the car feel as big as a car from one segment above, giving it a feel of driving a bigger car.

The bigger dimension of the Proton Saga on the outside clearly makes one feel pampered on the inside as well. The space levels inside the cabin are quite massive, with very impressive legroom and knee room at the rear.

Apart from the space, another area which makes the inner occupants of the car feel comfortable is the plush ride quality. The suspension setup is on the softer side, which is comfortable for long drives as well.

Compared to the small and old school looking previous generation Toyota Rush, the new version looks absolutely modern and eye-catching. The new Rush looks quite striking with angular front headlamps, wide front grille, rugged side profile with black cladding, roof rails and machined alloy wheels and the sporty rear profile with wide and horizontal tail lamps. All these design elements make the Rush feel like it is a vehicle from one category above.

The new generation Toyota Rush now features the additional flexibility of two extra seats in the third row, making it a seven-seater compact MUV. These extra two seats have a flexible folding arrangement, thus opening up a cavernous boot space at the rear. At the same time, there are multiple cup holders and small storage spaces in the entire cabin, making it a practical place to be in.

The previous generation Toyota Rush was known for its almost indestructible feel, and this new version of the Rush feels the same way as well. The ever trustable reliability factor of brand Toyota comes into play, giving the owners of the Rush an extra peace of mind when it comes to the after-sales period of owning it.

Things we don't like

Going by the exterior looks, it is very clear that the Proton Saga is not a car from today’s generation. While the low slung stance makes it feel dynamic, the overall boxy profile is clearly not trendy and might not appeal to the young generation at least.

Step inside the cabin and the dated feel of the car strengthens even more. The dashboard looks terribly dated and feels as if it belongs to two or three decades old.

For a car of this price, the Proton Saga lacks a number of comfort and convenience features which the buyers of today’s generation take for granted. The lack of a proper touch screen audio system itself is a turn off for many buyers.

While the Toyota Rush looks very striking and contemporary on the outside, the fact that it has been moderately styled on the inside makes for confused opinions. The too subtle styling on the inside with boring looking instrument console and center console dilutes the overall experience.

The new Rush is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is not as exciting in its power delivery as one would expect from it. The linear power delivery is good for comfortable and effortless driving but is not as engaging to drive, which might be a small turn off for enthusiasts.
