2020 Ford Ranger Raptor may get AEB

KUALA LUMPUR: American automobile manufacturer Ford Motor Company seems to be adding a new technology to the 2020 Ranger Raptor. If the teaser of the off-road pickup truck on Sime Darby Auto Connexion’s Facebook page is any indication, the vehicle is likely to get an autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system. Sime Darby Auto, Ford’s local distributor in Malaysia, claims that the 2020 Ranger Raptor will be a vehicle where ‘performance meets intelligence.’

The 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor was rolled out in Thailand in November. The vehicle had a number of tweaks over its outgoing version. The current Raptor is priced at RM 199,888 which is rather steep compared to the Ford Wildtrack which has the AEB kit. Raptors sold outside the Asia-Pacific region, however, had the AEB kit in the beginning. The Thai version of the 2020 Ranger Raptor has finally got AEB along with lane-keeping assist and pedestrian detection. Blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control (ACC) are still limited to the Wildtrack.

The high-performance, muscular Ranger Raptor has been in the Malaysian market for a while now and is often the preferred vehicle over other pick-up and full-sized trucks because of its extreme durability and spacious interiors. The current version of the Raptor is hauled by a twin-turbocharged, 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue engine which produces 213PS maximum power and 500Nm peak torque. The four-cylinder diesel motor is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Major features of the pickup include auto-dimming rear-view mirror, push-button start, keyless entry, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, eight-way powered driver’s seat, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor may be available with an FX4 version, based on the XLT model. The Raptor FX4 is expected to come with black exterior highlights that include the sports bar and 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior will have black leather upholstery with red stitching.
