2020 Honda Civic Hatchback to debut on June 23

KUALA LUMPUR: The hatchback version of the new Civic is all set to come out in the open. Honda recently released a teaser image of the vehicle and confirmed its June 23rd debut. Furthermore, the automaker also confirmed that the Civic hatch will continue to feature a 6-speed manual gearbox like its predecessor.

Though Honda has not confirmed many details, the Civic hatch is expected to be powered by a 180 hp 1.5-litre inline-four turbocharged mill that’s available as optional on the sedan version. The vehicle is likely to be offered in three trim options - LX, EX, and Sport and along with the manual transmission, a continuously variable automatic unit will be on offer.

The official teaser image dropped by Honda is a bit blurry and dark, but it seems like the hatchback has adopted the same clean and attractive design language as the sedan version. The main difference will be seen post the B-pillar, as the hatch will have more cargo space and a different greenhouse than its elder sibling.

Once Honda debuts the Civic hatch, all eyes will be on the models performance variants - the Si and Type R. While the Type R will come only as a hatchback, the Si will limit itself to the sedan format. However, seeing a Si hatchback would be interesting.
