2021 Honda Civic Type R facelift now available in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: At the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, Honda globally unveiled the facelifted Civic Type R, which has now made its way to the Indonesian market. The facelifted version of the hot hatchback hosts a number of cosmetic tweaks alongside the performance and creature comfort upgrades. Let’s check them out in detail.

On the exterior, the new Civic Type R features a more aggressive look with restyled front and rear bumper. The latter comes with a diffuser, a wing spoiler, and vortex generators. Included in the exterior revisions are body-coloured fins on the faux air intakes and vents, and a reshaped front grille for better cooling. The hot hatch continues to run on 20-inch alloy wheels featuring an aggressive stance.

Just like the sporty exterior, the interior of the all-new Honda Civic Type R boasts a sporty feel. It gets Type R Sport Seats with Red Suede style fabric, and a new steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara with red accents. Also new is a wireless charger, a redesigned shift knob, and a fine red line on the dashboard that connects to the side door panels. Other interior highlights include a 7-inch touch screen head unit, 8 speakers, audio steering switch, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, and so on.

Moving to the mechanical setup, here things stay the same with 2.0-litre, VTEC Turbo four-popper engine, which still delivers the maximum output of 310 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm. Power is channeled to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. The already available driving modes - Comfort, Sport, and +R are now linked with an Active Sound Control function that generates the sound according to the selected drive mode. 

While the engine remains the same, the chassis received some improvements like updated adaptive dampers, a tweaked steering system, and stiffer rear bushings. The hot hatch also gets new two-piece brake rotors and brake pads, that are said to deliver high-speed braking efficiency.

Lastly, the 2021 Honda Civic Type R price, the hot hatch retails for IDR 1.177 billion (RM 323,142) in the neighbouring market.
