Meet the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard that offers protection like a tank

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz introduced the all-new S-Class Guard for the ones who are afraid to be attacked by assailants while travelling. The new iteration is the armoured version of the standard model packed with all protective elements to withstand all kinds of weaponized assaults. 

These include reinforcement of the base structure integrated into the bodyshell with protective components of special steel between the body structure and the outer skin. Also, there are special aramide and PE components for splinter protection and intelligent overlapping systems for ballistic protection. 

The windows are 10 cm thick and are hydraulically operated while tyres are made of Michelin run-flats that can go 30 kilometres after a puncture. For emergency situations, the car also has an onboard oxygen supply system and fire extinguisher. Overall, the safety sedan has been engineered to get VPAM VR10 certification which is the highest ballistic protection level for a civilian vehicle. 

Available with a long wheelbase, the new Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard 4Matic boasts a large chromed grille flanked by the same LED High Performance headlamps. It has a sloping roofline, a sculpted hood, and the same LED rear light clusters inset like gemstones. This means it is hardly recognisable as an armoured saloon, which is an important requirement for special protection vehicles.

Under the bonnet, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard is fitted with a familiar 6.0-litre twin-turbo V-12 engine capable of generating a maximum power output of 604 hp and a peak torque of 830 Nm. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a  9-speed automatic gearbox.  The top speed of this special protection vehicle is electronically limited to 190 kmph.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard price in the European market starts from €547,400 which is approximately equal to RM 2,751,164.
