2022 Genesis G80 Sport debuts with athletic styling and rear-wheel steering

KUALA LUMPUR: Genesis is all set to add new trim to its popular midsize luxury sedan G80 lineup, that goes with the name ‘G80 Sport’. Hyundai's luxury arm recently unveiled the first official images of the upcoming version that features many exterior and interior design enhancements for a greater appeal.

The 2022 Genesis G80 Sport is decked up in an exclusive new colour - Cavendish Red. The name of the hue is taken from a cliffside located on the north coast area of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the colour was picked up from the region’s red cliffs.

The other things differentiating the base model and the G80 Sport include an exclusive front fascia that has a radiator grille donned in dark glossy chrome and a 3D wing-shaped front bumper. Also highlighting the trim’s sporty front end are black bezels around the headlights.

On the sides, the sporty sedan gets dark glossy chrome on the moldings for a luxury athletic feel. It also features exclusive 20-inch dark sputtering alloy wheels carrying G-Matrix Pattern and two extra calipers in black and red hues. At the back, a unique bumper, different trunk lid molding colour, and a redesigned diffuser contribute to the sedan’s powerful and aggressive stance.

Moving inside, here we can notice a Sport model-specific three-spoke steering wheel and different dashboard garnish. The latter will be available in three designs - Sport-exclusive real aluminum, real carbon, and a hybrid weaving diamond pattern. The last one will be seen for the first time on the G80. Buyers will also be able to choose the interior colour from the three exclusive options - black monotone with grey stitching, black monotone with red stitching, and Sevilla red.

For seats, the new Genesis G80 Sport gets exclusive seat quilting designs that can be opted in a diamond or V pattern. Besides cosmetics, the automaker also brings on board a Rear Wheel Steering (RWS) that maximizes driving stability.

“The Genesis G80 Sport delivers the best value to customers who want to enjoy the perfect balance of ‘Athletic Elegance’ from the G80 combined with a more dynamic driving experience,” said Genesis official.

Further, it confirmed that more details on the new G80 sport will be released at the time of launch in the third quarter of 2021.
