2022 Hyundai Elantra N teased as a fully camouflaged prototype

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai has announced the plan to expand its N and N-Line models’ counting to seven in the US market by 2022 while teasing two new offerings of the performance-oriented sub-brand, the Tucson N Line and Elantra N. Although we have seen the Elantra N earlier also, both in spy shots and official teaser, the latest camouflaged photos of the prototype gives us a better look at the sports sedan.

The upcoming N version is positioned at the top of the Hyundai Elantra lineup, above the recently revealed N Line version which makes 201 hp from a 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four mill. For Elantra N, Hyundai is likely to bring a larger and more powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine from the Veloster N, which generates 275 hp and 352 Nm of peak torque. It will have a six-speed manual gearbox and also likely to get the same eight-speed dual-clutch automatic that can be found on the 2021 Veloster N lineup.

Coming to the design, the full-fledged performance trim gets a more aggressive front fascia with different air intakes. Other distinguishing highlights visible in the teaser photos are sportier side skirts, larger wheels with N-branded calipers, a sporty diffuser, a massive dual exhaust system, and a unique rear wing. In terms of styling, It will surely be a couple of notches above the N Line. Moreover, the chassis upgrades, including a stiffer suspension and larger brakes can also be seen on the upcoming sedan.

Earlier It was expected to be unveiled sometime next year, but as the teaser campaign gains speed now, it may be possible that we could see an official preview this year only.

Including the recent two, and previously revealed Veloster N, Elantra N Line, and Sonata N Line, five of those seven models are now known to us, but the two entries are still under the covers, which would likely be the Kona N and Kona N Line.
