Price confirmed for 2022 Mercedes-Benz S 580 e in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Two months after the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has finally revealed its price. The sole PHEV variant of the saloon S 580 e is priced at RM 698,744 on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of 100% sales and service tax rebate valid until June 30, 2022. 

Almost RM 52,000 dearer than the predecessor, the new car is locally assembled at Pekan, Pahang, and comes with a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. But as confirmed earlier, there is a waiting list of four months for the sedan, which means if you order it today, you will get your car in June 2022.

To recap, the new version of the S-Class comes with the latest technologies and innovations that offer a never forgetting driving experience to the customers. It gets a digital and intelligent interior featuring the next-level MBUX infotainment unit. This system offers the next levels of personalization and interaction and is mated to five screens - OLED portrait-oriented central display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, two 11-inch rear screens, and a 7.0-inch Android tablet.

Other hi-tech features on offer are hi-tech seats with a 3D layer design theme, DIGITAL LIGHT, interactive interior lighting, front and rear Qi wireless chargers, Burmester 3D surround sound system, 360-degree camera system, a hands-free powered tailgate, and soft closing for all doors.

On the mechanical part, the new S 580 e is fitted with a new-gen PHEV system combining a 3.0-litre straight-six turbo engine and an electric motor. The former kicks out a maximum power output of 362 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm, while the latter delivers 147 hp and 440 Nm. The total system output comes down to 502 hp and 750 Nm, which is sent to wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. 

When it comes to performance, the Mercedes sedan runs from standstill to 100 kmph in 5.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 kmph. 

Included in the safety and driver assistance kit are Pre-Safe, park assist, 14 airbags (including rear side airbags), lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking with improved cross-traffic and pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control.
