449PS BYD Atto 3 Performance teased for Malaysia, on show from 10 September

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-wheel-drive Atto 3 that Malaysia did not get in June looks like it is finally on its way. A teaser posted by BYD Sime Beyond Auto, one of the Sime Motors dealer arms, has revealed a new BYD Atto 3 Performance making 330kW, going on display at six of its showrooms from 10 to 13 September 2026, with limited units.

The outlets listed are Ara Damansara, TREC in Kuala Lumpur, Sri Petaling, Mansion Macalister in Penang, and Tebrau and Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru.

There has been no official announcement from BYD Malaysia on price, local specification or a national on-sale date at the time of writing, so what follows is the shape of the car based on the social media poster rather than a confirmed Malaysian spec sheet.

What 330kW actually gets you

That 330kW figure lines up exactly with the Atto 3 Evo AWD that BYD sells in Europe, which is almost certainly the car we are getting if the poster is to be believed.

It takes the rear-drive Atto 3 Evo and adds a front motor, taking combined output to 330kW (449PS) and 560Nm, according to BYD's European figures. The claimed 0 to 100km/h time is 3.9 seconds and top speed is 200km/h.

The battery is the same 74.8kWh Blade LFP pack used in the Atto 3 Premium already on sale in Malaysia, so the extra performance costs you range. WLTP range drops from 510km in the rear-drive car to 470km in the AWD. DC charging stays at up to 220kW, with BYD quoting a 10 to 80 percent top-up in around 25 minutes.

Put in local terms, the current Atto 3 Premium runs a single 230kW rear motor with 380Nm and does the century sprint in 5.5 seconds.

The Performance adds 100kW and 180Nm on top of that, which is a huge jump for a family SUV that started life as the sensible EV crossover everyone bought because it was easy to live with.

It also does something awkward inside BYD's own showroom when it comes to SUVs. The 2026 Sealion 7 Performance AWD, which sits a class above and costs RM203,800, makes more power at 390kW and 690Nm but is slower to 100km/h at 4.5 seconds. The smaller, lighter Atto 3 will be the quickest thing BYD sells in Malaysia below the RM200,000 mark if these numbers hold.

The facelifted Atto 3 launched here on 5 June 2026 starts from RM125,800 for the front-wheel-drive Ultra and RM138,800 for the rear-wheel-drive Premium, both including a six-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 160,000km battery and drive unit warranty.

Those cars landed in Malaysia before 1 July, which is when MITI's revised rules for fully imported EVs kicked in. Whether the Performance units arriving now sit on the right side of that deadline will decide whether this thing is priced anywhere near the Premium, or somewhere else entirely.

Who it goes up against

The obvious target is the Zeekr X Flagship AWD, which sits at around RM176,000 and claims 3.7 seconds with 496PS. If the Atto 3 Performance comes in meaningfully under that while offering more usable space, it makes the Zeekr a harder sell on numbers alone.

Inside BYD's own range it awkwardly overlaps the Sealion 7, and buyers cross-shopping the Xpeng G6 Performance AWD or a used Tesla Model Y now have a much quicker Atto 3 to think about.

The caveat worth stating plainly is that the Atto 3 has never been a driver's car. It is comfortable, roomy and easy, but soft. Adding a front motor fixes straight-line speed instantly. 

For now, Malaysian buyers who want the fastest Atto 3 can see it in the metal from 10 September. We will update this story once BYD Malaysia confirms pricing and full local specification.
