BMW adds sDrive20i and sDrive30i to the Z4 series

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has revealed the full set of specifications and variant details of the all-new Z4 series. The all-new Z4 series was premiered last month and scheduled to be showcased at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. While the M40i variant was already unveiled earlier, this time they have added two new variants - sDrive20i and sDrive30i. However, the M40i still remains the top-end variant of the series.

There are some differences in the interior section of the M40i and the sDrive models. The sDrive model comes with Vernasca leather, whereas, the M40i comes with leather and Alcantara. In the driver’s cabin, a digital instrument cluster of 10.25-inch is one of the noticeable features. Moreover, all the three variants get BMW's O.S. 7.0 infotainment.

Speaking of the exterior, all the Z4 variants get LED headlights. The Roadster will be ridden on 18-inch alloy wheels, while one can opt for 19-inch units as well. The M40i is equipped with differential as well as Adaptive Sport Suspension along with M-sport brakes. However, the same are being offered as options in the sDrive20i and sDrive30i.

It will take just 10 seconds at a speed of less than 50 kmph to raise or lower the roof. The boot has more than 50% space over the predecessor with the roof down.

The M40i comes with a turbocharged, 3.0-litre inline-six engine while the sDrive 20i and sDrive 30i both have a turbocharged, four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine. The tuning of the two engines is different. The sDrive20i can churn out a maximum of 197 PS of power along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. On the other hand, the sDrive30i can produce up to 258 PS of power and a peak torque of 400Nm. Both the engines are coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and there is no option for a manual gearbox.

While the Bavarian automaker has revealed the full details of the series, Toyota has not spoken much about its competitor model, the Supra. We can hope the Supra to be introduced in the next few months.
