BMW-Alcantara partnership’s fruit is an i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition

KUALA LUMPUR: Be it the i4, iX3, i1, and the iNext EVs, or the luxury fastback i6, BMW is all over the news these days. Anyway, while there is still time for the EVs to roll out of the German automaker's production facilities, there is an enticing special edition of the i8 Roadster that has made it way out in the flesh. Also, it isn't BMW alone that has pulled this trick off.

The automaker from Munich, Germany has come together with Alcantara S.p.A. to bring the BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition to life. Having a look at the special edition i8 Roadster, the German car has become all that more unique, appealing, and is certain to grab all the eyeballs on the roads. As the name suggests, the exterior of the BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition is dipped in lime green paint. And then, other elements the blacked-out alloys, yellow brake callipers, and numerous black trim pieces provide the car with a trendy, attractive, and flamboyant profile.

The interior of the BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition is bolstered by Alcantara® leather that covers the seats, door panels, steering wheel, dashboard, and pretty the whole interior. Alcantara S.p.A. has then used contrasting lime-colored stitching to give the inside of the special edition i8 Roadster a dual-tone and unique appearance, just like the exterior.

Just like a regular i8, the BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition also houses a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol mill. Alongside the internal combustion engine, there's also an electric motor combo that is powered by an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. In terms of vigour, there is 369 hp of maximum power enabling the i8 Roadster to do a 0 to 100 kmph run in just 4.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 kmph.

Talking about BMW's partner in crime for the i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition, the Alcantara S.p.A. is a carbon-neutral fabric maker from Italy. The company has received a carbon-neutral certificate from TÜV SÜD every year from 2009 to 2019. Moreover, the company makes and sells its product under the registered trademark Alcantara®. "Alcantara S.p.A. is then the only world producer of the Alcantara material, guarantee of pure Italian quality and excellence", reads the Italian brand's website.
