BMW Group Malaysia names Raymond Tan as new managing director

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia has appointed Raymond Tan Chor Ann as its new Managing Director, who will officially assume the role from 1st September 2026. He succeeds Benjamin Nagel, who will take on the position of Managing Director of BMW Group Importer Markets in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.

    Raymond Tan brings extensive international experience

    The appointment marks a homecoming for Raymond Tan, a Malaysian who has built an extensive career within the BMW Group, spanning key markets and strategic functions across the Asia-Pacific region and at the company’s headquarters in Munich.

    Raymond Tan joined BMW Group Malaysia in 2003 as the Product and Price Planning Manager and later moved to BMW Group headquarters in Munich as Regional Product Manager. Upon returning to Malaysia, he handled the role of Head of Marketing before progressing to Head of Sales. With several pivotal leadership roles within BMW Group Malaysia, he brings extensive international experience and a deep understanding of the local automotive market. 

    Now, as Managing Director, Raymond Tan will lead the group’s operations and continue to strengthen the BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad brands in the country. He will focus on delivering premium customer experiences, advancing premium mobility, and reinforcing the automaker’s position as the Ultimate Choice in the premium segment.

    Upon taking up the new role, Raymond said, “I am excited to return to Malaysia to lead the National Sales Company as the first local Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, particularly at this pivotal moment as the BMW Group prepares for a new era with the upcoming introduction of the Neue Klasse range of models. My priorities will be to further develop the business, professionalise the retail network, strengthen customer loyalty, and to continue positioning the BMW Group as the premium brand of choice in Malaysia.”

    As Raymond takes up the new role, Benjamin Nagel leaves behind a strong foundation. He played a significant role in driving the brand through a period of transformation and evolving market conditions, making BMW Group Malaysia the Ultimate Choice in the premium segment, with electrification, digitisation, customer experience, and dealer network development as key initiatives. 

    With more than two decades of international leadership experience within the BMW Group, he has held senior management positions across Germany, India, South Africa, Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
