BMW showcases third-gen G29 Z4 at 2019 BIMS

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has displayed G29 Z4 at the ongoing 2019 BIMS (Bangkok International Motor Show). Last month the carmaker launched this third-generation model along with the popular G20 3 Series in Thailand. There are two variants of the G29 BMW Z4 available in the Thai market - the sDrive 30i in M Sport trim, considered as the base model, and the M40i, the performance model.

The G29 BMW Z4 comes with M Sport exterior package as standard. This package consists of adaptive LED headlights, Variable Sport Steering, dual-zone climate control, powered seats with driver’s side memory, keyless entry, BMW Live Cockpit Professional system and much more. Also, the car rides on the double-spoke alloy wheels of 19-inch.

The G29 Z4’s performance flagship variant, the M40i comes with an M Sport locking rear differential, M Sport seat belts, Sensatec faux leather dash, and Harman Kardon sound system. There are also the M Sport brakes, which handle the braking duties, while the M Sport suspension provides a comfortable drive.

Coming to the mechanical front, BMW Z4 sDrive 30i is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. It can provide a maximum power of 258 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission and has the rear wheel drive system. It is capable of achieving a top speed of 250 kmph while speeding up from 0 to 100 kmph can be achieved in just 5.4 seconds.

On the other hand, the M40i variant features a 3-litre engine capable of pumping out a maximum power of 340 hp along with a peak torque of 500 Nm. It comes with an M-specific shift pattern and Launch Control. The car can complete a 100kmph sprint in just 4.5 seconds.

In Thailand, the BMW sDrive 30i comes with a price tag of 3.999 million baht, which is equivalent to RM 510,533. On the other hand, the performance flagship variant, M40i is priced at 4.999 million baht (RM 638,199).
