BMW woos Pebble Beach with its M4 GTS Concept featuring water injection tech!

Kuala Lumpur:  WATER in a Combustion Chamber sounds like something from a James Bond movie. But hey, isn't this what science and innovation are all about? To make impossible, possible. Till now it was widely accepted that water has no place in the combustion chamber, but the BMW magazine Bimmer disagrees to the fact. The automotive geniuses working at the BMW has come up with an innovation that seems to annul our conventional understanding about mechanical engineering.

This is not a new concept as it was earlier introduced for the first time as a test subject in the form of the 2015 BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car. The widely eulogized M Division of BMW has equipped the M4’s 431 hp inline-six lump with a unique water injection system. It is believed that this unique addition augments the upper performance limits, which are otherwise restricted because of its high temperatures. Putting the figure aside, it also optimises fuel efficiency with benefits in full-load consumption and heavy exhaust emissions. That is something Eureka!

Well, before you think of it as a fictional news, you should know; How it works?

Water injection system works on the principle of heat exchange, which happens by extracting heat through a fine spray of mist into the intake manifold's plenum. Due to the heat, when the water vapourises, then intake air temperatures drop significantly. As a result of which, the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber reduces and it gives a golden opportunity to the turbochargers to use higher boost numbers and earlier injection timing, without worrying about the thermal restrictions.

The major advantage of this innovation is a significant increase in power and torque while the reduction in thermal stress on performance components. This water injection system also enhances the durability and stability of the powertrain, allowing the M4 GTS Concept to bring technology from race tracks to roads. Brilliant isn't it.

Now moving from Water injection to the fine details of this all-new specimen. BMW M4 GTS concept can be painted in Frozen Dark Grey Metallic with accents of Acid Orange carefully splashed over the wheels and front splitter. Speaking of wheels, the Concept GTS is anchored on 265/35 R19 at the front and 285/30 R20 Michelin Sports Cup 2 at the rear.

BMW M4 GTS goes by its name with M genes and GTS lineup. It symbolizes power but also an adherence to being lightweight. The car is crafted in generous lashings of carbon composites and is constantly used towards lower to curb weight and improvise its centre of gravity, making it a proper track rider. Besides that the M4 features aesthetically crafted OLED tail lamps.

The Concept M4 GTS was unveiled last weekend at the eulogized Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance car show in California where it proved to be a true head turner, marking BMW's presence. The M4 GTS Concept will soon set out for production. Stay tuned for more updates!

Despite being a biotech professional, Sanchit Agarwal's daydreams of driving a Ferrari and chasing cars in a Grand Prix made him jump into automotive journalism. His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own. When people loved playing outdoor sports, Sanchit was stuck to his racing video games hidden in a closet. The torque of his creative writing coupled with his passion for moving machines pushed him into Carbay's garage. Sanchit also wonders's, why is he writing this as a third person.
