BMW X4: What we like

It was in May 2019 that BMW Malaysia launched the X4 SUV in the local market. Offered in only one single variant option, the X4 xDrive30i M Sport, which retails for RM 364,800. Included in the price is a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, BMW Tyre Warranty programme, and a free scheduled service programme.

While it's been a while since this locally-assembled Sports Active Coupe made its way into Malaysia there is no time soon we are getting over it. Here are four things we like about the X4.

1. BMW X4 Exterior

The X4 has a powerful stance with a striking coupe shape. This one is a combination of X model power and a couple's aesthetics. All this and more give the X4 an exterior that is filled with confidence and expression. Its distinctive design elements and high-quality equipment underline the coupe's sporty appearance and dynamic driving character. Here are a few exterior highlights -

• The front fascia features a double kidney grille in the centre that visualises authority and power. It protrudes prominently from the bonnet and thus underlying the dynamic character
• The adaptive LED headlights come with low-beam & anti-dazzle high-beam lights and full LED turn indicators. The setup also includes DRLs, cornering lights, and variable light control for those adaptive headlights
• The air breather behind those muscular front wheel arches underscores the vehicle's athletic character

• The slim rear window and the low slung roof spoiler emphasises the coupe's sporting character
• The striking L-shaped LED taillights consists of individual LED lighting elements making the vehicle recognisable from a distance
• Further enhancing the coupe’s exterior design’s curves and cut are the four striking hues - Phytonic Blue, Alpine White, Flamenco Red, and Carbon Black

2. BMW X4 Interior

The X4 interior like its exterior showcases a sporty and dynamic face. As one can expect the X4 offers supreme comfort, luxury, and is blessed with several high-tech gears. The highlights include -

• Panorama glass roof that when open provides fresh air and when closed creates a bright, light-flooded atmosphere
• The driver and passenger get individually adjustable Sport seats that comes with several manual adjustable options (backrest width & angle, seat angle, fore-and-aft position)
• The instrument panel comes wrapped in Sensatec showcasing a highly exclusive atmosphere
• The ergonomic centre console is optimally oriented towards the driver. Further, the Galvanik M badge on the console testifies maximum precision and comfort
• The spacious 525-litre boot comes in handy

BMW X4 State-of-the-Art Assistance Systems

The X4's comes equipped with state-of-the-art assistance systems that assure the maximum level of comfort and safety. It gets an innovative infotainment system that both keeps the driver informed and entertained. Further, BMW ConnectedDrive offers optimum connectivity at all times. Also part of the kit is -

• BMW Head-Up Display that projects all the drive related info into the driver's field of vision. It displays info like current speed, speed limit, telephone & entertainment list, and navigation.
• The infotainment system is super easy to operate and informative. It can be controlled via the touchscreen, voice control, or Drive Controller

• The Navigate Door to Door feature makes sure you arrive on time and relax.
• The 'time to leave' notification on the My BMW App will remind you in advance of your next appointment. It reminds you in advance when to leave and communicating via your smartphone or smartwatch
• The car comes with a guarded safety front that includes - a rearview camera, parking assistant, Cornering Brake Control, six airbags, Dynamic Brake Control, cruise control with brake function, and two ISOFIX mounts for the rear seat.

BMW X4 Driving Dynamics

There is no challenge too great for the BMW X4. The coupe masters every assignment with maximum precision, stability, and unique handling thanks to its low centre of gravity, firm sports steering, and Adaptive M Suspension.

On the performance front, it gets the familiar 2.0-litre 4-Cyl petrol mill making a maximum power of 252 hp at 5,200 to 6,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,450 to 4,800 rpm. The drive is channelled to all four wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

With all this, the X4 completes the century sprint in 6.3 seconds before topping a top speed of 240 kmph.
