Chery returning to Australia after 8-years with the Omoda 5 SUV

KUALA LUMPUR: It seems like a pretty good year for the country Down Under, aka Australia. It was only a while back we informed you about the soon arrival of the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray V8 hybrid and now Chery is returning to the country.

Yes, the Chinese automaker that has been making a lot of headlines in the local market; with the soon arrival of the Omoda 5, Tiggo 4 Pro, and more, is now planning to make its way to the Australian market as well, and that too after a long absence of eight years.

What took Chery so long to return? Well, all this while the Chinese automaker was busy preparing a new model lineup with a five-star rating and advanced technology. With its new innings, the automaker aims for a long-term vision and sustainable growth.

Which will be the first Chery model to enter the Australian market? Like Malaysia, the Omoda 5 SUV will be the first Chery model to be offered to Australian customers, somewhere around March 2023. Following the SUV will be other models like the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. Also, by next year, Chery is expected to bring along electric variants.

Chery Australia Managing Director, Andy Zhang also confirmed that the automaker will be putting up approximately 60 showrooms to strengthen its network. All this along with every vehicle with a seven-year, unlimited mileage warranty and a five-star safety rating. To begin with, the Omoda 5 SUV recently grabbed a 5-star rating via EURO NCAP.

Chery in Malaysia

As mentioned earlier, Chery will begin its journey in Malaysia with the Omoda 5 SUV, followed by the Tiggo 8 Pro, Tiggo 4 Pro, and Tiggo 7 Pro in Q2 2023. Also, the brand plans to assemble EV and PHEV models locally by 2024.
