New Chery Tiggo Cross teased for Malaysia; launch expected soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Launched in July last year, the Chery Tiggo Cross is ready for an upgrade in the local market. Chery Malaysia has launched a teaser campaign for the upgraded SUV on its social media handle, sharing dark clips of the new Tiggo Cross with the caption, “We are gearing up for something sporty and special.”

While details are scarce at the moment, the teaser reveals rear cosmetic changes, including new chrome trim and a restyled bumper, elevating the SUV’s visual appeal. The front design will also get tweaks for a fresher look; the teaser hints at a redesigned front bumper, sharper detailing, and more prominent vertical air intakes, with the main grille and headlight layout remaining the same as the current version. 

Notably, the Chery Tiggo Cross has not yet received an upgrade in China and other markets, which means Malaysia will be the first market to get the revised version.

Positioned below the Omoda 5, the Chery Tiggo Cross boasts compact dimensions, stylish design, and smart technology features, appealing to younger drivers and urban families. The current model is offered in two variants -  1.5 Turbo and 1.5 Hybrid CSH, priced at RM 88,800 and RM 99,800, respectively.  

The Turbo variant is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating a maximum power of 147 PS and a peak torque of 210 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling the vehicle to hit the century sprint in 10.3 seconds. The fuel efficiency is rated at 6.3 litres per 100 km (15.87 kmpl). 

The hybrid variant, on the other hand, comes with a 102-PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and two electric motors, tuned to deliver a maximum power of 204 PS. Paired with a Direct Hybrid Transmission and a 1.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, the Tiggo Cross Hybrid offers an impressive fuel economy of 5.4 litres per 100 km (18.52 kmpl), a cruising range of 1,000 km on a single tank, and an EV-like experience without the hassle of charging. 

The petrol-powered Tiggo Cross comes with a 7-year/150,000 km manufacturing warranty. However, the Hybrid trim also includes an 8-year warranty covering 160,000 km for the battery pack, electric motor, and hybrid control unit.
