Geely Preface concept sedan revealed in production form

KUALA LUMPUR: To showcase the next step of Geely's sedan evolution, the brand previewed the Preface Concept at Shanghai Auto Show last year. Now, the sedan has transitioned into a production vehicle and is recently unveiled by the Chinese automaker in the first official images. Though pictures only reveal the exterior design, Geely is still keeping the Preface's cabin under the covers.

The stylish sport sedan uses the Geely Holding Group's award-winning Compact Modular Architecture jointly developed with Volvo. It is the brand's second model to be underpinned by the said platform, following the Xing Yue coupe.

"We have strived to retain many of the aspects of the Preface Concept sedan that we showed in 2019, and with added feedback from Geely Auto users and our global fans we have retained many aspects, and also introduced several improvements to the production Preface," says Guy Burgoyne, Geely Design Shanghai Vice President.

Like the concept version, the Geely Preface production model incorporates the brand's 'cosmos grille,' which now has a stronger and broader shape as compared to its first introduction on the Geely Bo Rui sedan in 2015. The grille is flanked by slim headlights with twin projectors. The sedan's sporty and elegant proportions are largely the same and somewhat look similar to Volvo's current sedans.

The side profile also mirrors the concept with neat flowing contours that taper into the roofline and down into the sedan's rear. Although the concept had suicide rear doors, the production version goes with a more conventional layout. Dimension wise, Geely Preface is 4,785 mm long, 1,869 mm wide, and 1,469 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2800 mm.

Platform aside, the Chinese sedan is also likely to get the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine from Volvo. However, Geely will announce the mechanical bits near the launch, which is expected for the fourth quarter of 2020 in China, followed by other countries.

Looking at the Geely cars in Malaysia, the market has Proton X70, which is a rebadged version of Geely Boyue compact crossover. Given that, Geely Preface could be the next Proton Perdana/Preve.
