Genesis GV70 revealed in full; will hit the roads next year

KUALA LUMPUR: The luxury carmaker Genesis has already introduced the athletic and sporty GV70 SUV to the world back in October and now it is the time of showing all the cards related to the engine on the wheels and safety pack shielding the luxury SUV. The much-anticipated GV70 is the fifth model in the brand’s lineup, joining the G70, G80, and G90 sedans, along with the recently announced GV80 SUV. And, like all other Genesis cars, the GV70 will also be based on an RWD platform.

According to the automaker’s home-market website, the upcoming GV70 will be offered in three engine options, including a turbocharged 2.5-litre inline-four unit generating 304 PS of maximum power and 422 Nm of peak torque. The next one is a more powerful 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 rated at 380 PS and 530 Nm. On the diesel front, a 2.2-litre turbo diesel inline-four will be available with an output of 210 PS and 441 Nm. All powertrains are likely to be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission

Inspired by the “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy, the GV70 features a sporty and powerful appearance. Upfront, there is an iconic crest grille in the shape of the Genesis logo, and the quad headlamps that have been set higher than the grille to reflect the SUV’s athletic stance. The two strips of the quad lamps flaunt a sense of speed and dynamism while the skid plates located at the bottom reinforce its powerful image.

Along with the dropping chrome line to the C-pillar, the sleek and elegant coupe-like roofline further accentuates the GV70’s athletic characteristic. At the rear, the spotlights are quad tail lights, a G-Matrix pattern-applied bumper, a unique vertical shaped muffler, and a body-colored diffuser. A sport package will also be available to further enhance the SUV’s sporty appearance.

Inside the cabin, the GV70’s dashboard is significantly different from its stablemates as it comes with a cleaner look highlighted by a character line running from the door panels through the AC vents and across the instrument panel cowl. Other interior features comprise a large 14.5-inch infotainment display, rotary gear selector, a two-spoke steering wheel, a 12.3-inch TFT 3D digital instrument cluster, four-zone climate control, a dual-filter air purifier system, ambient lighting leather upholstery, AR Navigation, and various storage cubbies.

The Genesis GV70 safety net also hosts a number of advanced safety and driver assistance bits including eight airbags, navigation-based smart cruise control, a surround-view monitor, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, intelligent speed limit assist, forward collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning, forward attention warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, parking collision-avoidance assist, remote smart parking assist, and highway driving assist II.

Talking about the arrival, the 2021 Genesis GV70 is expected to go on sale in the international market in the first half of 2021. Upon launching, it will rival against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, and Lincoln Corsair.
