Genesis unveils a new four-seater crossover concept, the GV80 Coupe

KUALA LUMPUR: At an exclusive event recently held at Genesis House New York, Hyundai’s luxury arm introduced its all-new GV80 Coupe Concept. It is a four-seater crossover that combines the styling elements of the ongoing GV80 and the X Speedium coupe prototype the brand unveiled last year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What does the new Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept preview?

The new Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept reveals the brand’s intent for more emotional, performance-oriented models and a preview of Genesis’ future programs.
  • What are some notable interior highlights of the GV80 Coupe Concept?

The interior of the GV80 Coupe Concept features a three-spoke steering wheel, four bucket seats with carbon fibre backrest and a strut bar fitted behind the second-row seats.
  • The automaker defines it as “a statement of intent for more emotional, performance-oriented models and a preview of Genesis’ future programs.”

The front design of the car looks distinctive with Double G-Matrix Patterned Crest Grille bracketed by quad headlights that incorporate new multi-lens array technology. It also boasts a carbon fibre roof that not only aids in reducing the centre of gravity but also leads to a reduction in weight.

Adding to the coupe’s exceptional styling are five-spoke forged aluminium wheels, an overhauled roof line, an upper rear spoiler, a spoiler lip on the elliptical ducktail, and striking rear lamps. We can also find a "Designed by Genesis" plaque on the car’s front fender.

Emphasising the car’s bold design is the Magma exterior paint inspired by the automaker’s Distinctly Korean ethos. Luc Donckerwolke, Group Chief Creative Officer describes it as, “The colour symbolises the self-confident and passionate attitude of Korea. There is a quiet, efficient, disciplined, and humble first impression soon contrasted by a high performing and extroverted attitude.”

Getting inside the new Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept, here we can see a mix of the brand’s elegant Beauty of White Space philosophy and athletic attributes. The key highlights are as follows -

    • A three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in black Nappa and suede leather with plaid double stitching
    • Four bucket seats enhancing body support during cornering
    • Carbon fibre backrest sprayed with body colour
    • A strut bar fitted behind the second-row seats

As for under-the-skin specifications, Genesis remained tight-lipped with just confirming the vehicle underpins a rear-wheel-drive platform.

Luc Donckerwolke further added, “At its inception, the Genesis brand began creating luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80, and G90 models. Over the past seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now we are pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that elevate Genesis’ performance and dynamic attributes.”
