GWM Malaysia set to launch locally-assembled Haval H6 in Q3 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: Previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 and Malaysia Autoshow 2024, the highly-anticipated Haval H6 is finally ready to hit the local roads. In a recent press release, Great Wall Motors, the parent company of Haval, confirmed that the Haval H6 will be launched in Malaysia in Q3 2024.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the fuel efficiency of the Haval H6 hybrid?

The upcoming Haval H6 hybrid is expected to offer an impressive fuel consumption of 5.2 litres per 100 km.
  • What are the main rivals of the upcoming Haval H6 HEV?

The Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5 are among the main rivals of the upcoming Haval H6 HEV.
  • Notably, the upcoming Haval H6 will be the automaker’s first CKD model in Malaysia, to be locally assembled in association with EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB). The local assembly is set to begin in the third quarter of the year at EPMB’s facility in Hicom Pegoh Industrial Park in Melaka. The company aims to produce 6,000 units by the end of the year.

With the beginning of the local assembly of vehicles in Malaysia, GWM plans to expand its reach in the ASEAN region. It aims to offer more affordable, high-quality vehicles along with a comprehensive sales, after-sales service, and spare parts infrastructure network.

“Our commitment to delivering innovative products and excellent services has always been at the core of our mission in Malaysia. We aim to establish GWM as a renowned and trusted brand, recognised for our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction,” said Cui An Qi, Managing Director, GWM Malaysia.

Back in May, the company started accepting orders for the upcoming Haval H6. It is a C-segment SUV built on a highly acclaimed global platform, LEMON.

The SUV measures 4,683 mm in length, 1,886 mm in width, and 1,724 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,738 mm. Compared to its direct rival Proton X70, it is 164 mm longer, 55 mm wider, and 30 mm taller. The wheelbase is also longer by 68 mm.

In terms of styling, the upcoming Haval SUV sports a sleek and modern look with aa huge chrome front grille bracketed by advanced LED headlights. Other key features include - LED fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, and connecting LED tail lights.

Inside, the SUV will come equipped with a premium fit and finish and cutting-edge technology. The feature kit may include - a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless charging pad, automatic air-conditioning, adaptive cruise control, powered front seats, six airbags, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, collision avoidance systems, and traffic jam assist.

Under the bonnet, we can find a hybrid setup comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor. The former generates a maximum power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 230 Nm, while the latter is tuned to make 177 PS and 300 Nm. Together, the setup kicks out 243 PS and 530 Nm of torque.

Sending power to the front wheels is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, also known as the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.

The H6 is one of Haval's best-selling SUVs, available in over 60 countries, with 4 million units sold globally. The question remains - Will it stand out in Malaysia or just be another SUV in the crowd?
