GWM Wey G9 coming to Malaysia, here's what to expect

Great Wall Motors is gearing up to introduce a brand-new people hauler in the Malaysian market, called the WEY G9. The automaker recently took to its social media handles to announce the imminent launch of the MPV.

If the WEY G9 looks familiar to you, you are not mistaken. Because it is the same MPV that GWM Malaysia previewed at the Kuala Lumpur Mobility International Show 2024 under the name WEY 80.

The WEY G9/80 is an intelligent luxury MPV built for comfort, safety, and every moment that matters. It is to be noted that Wey is GWM’s premium sub-brand, focused on luxury, high-tech SUVs and MPVs. 

While we are waiting for official specs to drop, it’s a great idea to look at what the upcoming GWM MPV offers in global markets to get an early glimpse of what to expect.

Commanding road presence

GWM offers the MPV in three versions in China: short wheelbase, standard wheelbase, and long wheelbase. However, the unit previewed here was in the short-wheelbase form, featuring a commanding road presence and generous proportions. It measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,900 mm in height and spans a 3,085 mm wheelbase.

Bold styling with a modern edge

The exterior is an ultimate combination of power and elegance, featuring a large radiator front grille, dynamic lines, and chrome elements for a bold, avant-garde appearance. Further accentuating the profile are full LED front and rear lights, a high roofline, large windows, and large wheels, highlighting its readiness for both city driving and long-distance journeys.

Premium comfort meets smart technology

The WEY G9 cabin promises a perfect harmony of modern technology and superior comfort. It exudes a premium vibe with soft-touch materials, a starlit ceiling, and ambient lighting. Offering an innovative driving experience is a triple-screen dashboard, which includes a digital instrument cluster, central multimedia display (mated to Harman Kardon surround sound system), and an additional screen for the front passenger. There is also a head-up display that projects key info directly in the driver’s line of sight.

In the global market, WEY MPV comes in both 6- or 7-seater configurations, ensuring maximum comfort for families and VIP passengers. 

Adding to the comfort and convenience of drivers and passengers are Zero Gravity seats and a three-zone climate control system offering separate temperature settings for front and rear passengers. This ultimate people hauler features high-end acoustic glass for cabin quietness and a 12.5 litre fridge with an independent compressor, which comes in handy for road trips, picnics, or families with kids.

The luxury MPV also comes equipped with an Air Filtration & UV Sterilisation System, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated and heated seats, and ample cabin storage compartments for keeping personal items.

Next-generation hybrid performance

The upcoming GWM G9 is powered by a Hi4 all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors. The Hi4 electric driving system ensures that power is efficiently distributed and offers optimal performance both in urban settings and off-road conditions. The energy recovery system and intelligent driving modes (Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow) make the vehicle more efficient and responsive.
