Haval H6 HEV local assembly begins in Malaysia; launch imminent

KUALA LUMPUR:  The Haval H6, a bold and electrified SUV, is set to cause a stir in the hybrid SUV market, challenging giants like the Honda CR-V e:HEV and Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The first locally assembled unit of the GWM Haval H6 HEV has rolled off the production line at EP Manufacturing Berhad’s new CKD production plant. The SUV will now undergo a series of rigorous quality checks and safety tests before hitting the local showrooms in October.

    With the local assembly of the SUV now underway, GWM Malaysia is not only preparing for its local launch but also positioning itself to expand further into the ASEAN region. The company aims to offer more affordable, high-quality vehicles while building a robust infrastructure for sales, after-sales service, and spare parts support.

    “We aim to establish GWM as a renowned and trusted brand, recognised for our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction,” said Cui An Qi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia.

    The automaker previewed the highly anticipated Haval H6 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 and opened its order books at the event. The SUV is offered in a single trim, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-popper gasoline mill paired with an electric motor. The engine generates a maximum power of 147 hp and a peak torque of 285 Nm, however, the e-motor is good for making 177 hp. Together, the setup delivers a system output of 240 hp and 530 Nm.

    The mechanical setup comprises a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), where the electric motor handles most low-speed driving. At higher speeds, the turbo engine steps in, often acting as a generator to power the hybrid system, supported by a 1.8kWh battery.

    Built on the company’s highly acclaimed LEMON platform, the Haval H6 is 4,683 mm long, 1,886 mm wide, and 1,724 tall. The wheelbase is measured at 2,738 mm, the longest in its segment. Design-wise, the upcoming Haval SUV exudes a bold and sporty vibe with the ‘Star Matrix’ front grille, Matrix LED headlamps, and 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels.

    The interior is loaded with tons of tech and comfort bits that will make luxury brands blush. It boasts a black and white interior theme with rose gold trim and soft-touch materials. The tech niceties include -
