Here's what the new Mazda BT-50 has to offer

KUALA LUMPUR: We consider the Thai-market to be extremely lucky, as it is often the first amongst the ASEAN market to receive a facelift or a new model altogether. So, after benefiting from the BMW 5 Series sedan, the Thai-market is on the receiving end of the all-new Mazda MT-50 pickup.

The new Mazda MT-50 seems to be a perfect fit for Thailand, as pickups make 50 percent of the country's new vehicle sales.

The Thai-spec Mazda MT-50 is available in two engine options and 14 variants. The two MT-50 variants out of 14 are powered by a 3.0-litre turbodiesel mill making a maximum power of 195 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. Rest 12 variants of the pickup are fueled by 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine that pumps out 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. On the transmission front, both the mills can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

 

On the design front, the Mazda MT-50 features the brand signature Kodo design theme. Overall the vehicle displays more of an SUV look and feels, making it look different in the crowd of many. Few highlighting bits include - LED headlamps and 18-inch wheels.

On the inside, the BT-50 portrays a more premium look and feel. It benefits from elements like a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, 8 speakers, 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, rear USB charging port, dual-zone automatic air-con system, and electronic-locking differential.

Speaking of safety, Mazda MT-50 benefits from an Advanced Driver Assistance System that includes a rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring system. Also included in its safety kit are six airbags, a reverse camera, and 4-cell parking sensors.

There's no information about the new MT-50s introduction in the local market. However, with such great styling, performance, and styling updates, we hope for its soon introduction.
