Kia issues recall notice for over 1200 Sorento SUVs in Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: Globally revealed in July last year, the all-new Kia Sorento facelift hit the Australian roads a few weeks back. The upgraded model features refined exterior styling and an upmarket premium interior with next-gen technology features. However, it has come to light that the Korean automaker is now recalling the SUV in the Land Down Under.

The Kia Sorento is recalled due to a breach in Australian Design Rules related to the fuel consumption label on the windscreen. A total of 1288 vehicles are affected by the recall, all of which are newly-launched facelifted models.

The recall notice, submitted to the Department of Infrastructure, highlights a manufacturing defect resulting in inaccurate fuel consumption and emissions data being displayed on the label.

According to Australian Design Rule 81/02, governing Fuel Consumption Labelling for Light Vehicles, the affected vehicles fail to comply with regulatory standards. However, Kia assures that this issue poses no safety hazard to drivers or occupants.

In response to the recall, Kia has announced plans to contact affected owners via mail. Each owner will receive a replacement label containing the correct information along with the notification letter.

This recall underscores the brand’s commitment to transparency and regulatory compliance, ensuring that customers receive accurate information regarding their vehicle's performance and efficiency.
