Mazda marks the 20th anniversary of Mazda6 with a special edition

KUALA LUMPUR: The popular Mazda 6 has completed its 20 years of existence and to celebrate this milestone, the Japanese automaker has unveiled a special Mazda 6 20th Anniversary Edition. It comes in both sedan and station wagon body types and features new exterior shades, unique badging, and a new interior colour palette. 

To begin with, the special Mazda 6 is sprayed with the brand’s latest premium colour tone, named “Artisan Red”. This new hue is a combination of three layers viz a translucent paint layer, a clear layer, and a reflective/absorptive layer, which altogether offers a unique aesthetic and a reduced environmental footprint. In addition, Mazda offers the two decades anniversary model with one more recently created shade i.e. Rhodium White. 

Further differentiating the 20th Anniversary Edition from the standard model is a glossier silver grille, 19-inch bright silver wheels, and special badges on the front fenders. 

Getting inside the Mazda 6 20th Anniversary Edition, here we can find the following unique elements setting it apart from the usual model -

• Tan-coloured Leganu synthetic suede and Nappa leather upholstery 
• 20th-anniversary emblems on the headrests
• Tan-colored stitching
• Electric sliding sunroof as an optional feature

The special Mazda 6 will soon go on sale in Japan and Australia, powered by different mechanical setups. The Japanese-spec model will have a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D diesel engine under the hood generating a maximum power of 200 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. 

The Australian version, on the other hand, will come equipped with a 2.5-litre turbocharged SkyActiv-G gasoline mill that makes 235 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an updated six-speed automatic transmission offering faster gear changes along with a better pedal response.

While pricing for Australia is yet to be announced, the Mazda 6 20th Anniversary Edition price in the home market starts at ¥4,422,000 (RM 142,579) and goes all the way up to ¥4,662,900 (RM 150,346). Closer to home, the standard Mazda 6 retails between RM 175,000 and RM 213,000.
