Mazda CX-60 launched in Malaysia; here’s all you need to know

KUALA LUMPUR: Since its global premiere in 2022, Malaysians have been eagerly waiting for the Mazda CX-60. Well, the wait is finally over as Bermaz Motor has officially launched the SUV on our shores. 

The CX-60 is a full-size, five-seater SUV that falls under the brand’s Large Product group and signals a more premium direction for the brand.

Bermaz Motor offers the all-new Mazda CX-60 in a single 2.5L 2WD High variant (fully imported from Japan), priced at RM 200,510 (on the road, without insurance). Included in the price is a five-year/100,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and a five-year, 100,000 km complimentary maintenance package. 

Mazda CX-60 dimensions 

Based on the brand’s new Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, the Mazda CX-60 measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height and spans a 2,870 mm wheelbase. Compared to the Mazda CX-5, it is 165 mm longer, 45 mm wider, and has a 170 mm longer wheelbase, resulting in more rear legroom and a more balanced stance.

The CX-60 underpins the latest evolution of the brand’s Kodo design language, combining muscular SUV proportions with minimalist elegance. At the front, we can see a tall grille with an illuminated signature wing and integrated indicators. It is flanked by vertically stacked automatic LED headlights and LED daytime running lights.

The SUV has rearward cabin positioning and smooth body lines, inspired by Japanese calligraphy and modern art. Reflecting its performance-oriented RWD architecture is a front wing badge and a signature line. 

Other key highlights included - LED tail lights with signature illumination, automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic power-folding side mirrors, hands-free powered tailgate, panoramic powered sunroof with sliding and tilt glass, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Mazda CX-60 engine specifications

The Malaysia-spec Mazda CX-60 is powered by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power of 191 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 261 Nm at 3,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The RWD is quite a rare sight in the segment, making the CX-60 stand out for buyers seeking a more balanced, driver-oriented SUV.

Designed from the ground up, the SUV's RWD architecture comprises a double-wishbone suspension at the front and a multilink rear setup at the rear. The setup is paired with an innovative Kinematic Posture Control system that employs the brakes to stabilise the car during turns and rough terrain, promising a smooth driving experience. Handling braking duties are ventilated discs at the front and rear.
