Mazda CX-60 coming to Malaysia; here’s what to expect

Malaysians have been eagerly waiting for the Mazda CX-60 ever since its global premiere in 2022. That wait is finally going to be over soon, as Bermaz Motor has finally started accepting the SUV’s bookings and revealed some preliminary details. 

The company offers the Mazda CX60 in a single 2.5G 2WD High variant, fully imported from Japan. The estimated price tag reads RM 200,510.40 (on the road without insurance). 

With the launch around the corner, here’s what to expect from the upcoming Mazda SUV.

Mazda CX-60: What to expect?

A premium SUV 

The CX-60 is a full-size, five-seater SUV that falls under the brand’s Large Product group and signals a more premium direction for the brand. The SUV offers an ultimate combination of dynamic styling, luxury features, and performance that make it highly desirable. It will compete against the upmarket rivals from brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volvo. 

Positioned above the CX-5

Based on the brand’s new Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, the Mazda CX-60 is positioned above the CX-5 in the brand’s local lineup. It measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height and spans a 2,870 mm wheelbase. Compared to the CX-5, it is 195 mm longer, 50 mm wider, and has a 170 mm longer wheelbase, translating into more rear legroom and a more balanced stance.

Mazda’s latest ‘Kodo’ design philosophy

The SUV features the latest evolution of Mazda’s Kodo design language, which follows the concept of "Noble Toughness”, focusing on simplicity and reflective surfacing. This can be seen in the form of a deeply sculpted front fascia, side sills, and sharp grooves.

The vehicle combines muscular SUV proportions with minimalist elegance, which evokes the feel of a living creature in motion. Among the key design highlights are - 

• A tall front grille with an illuminated signature wing and integrated indicators 
• Vertically stacked headlights with an L-shaped lighting signature
• Rearward cabin positioning and smooth body lines, inspired by Japanese calligraphy and modern art
• Front wing badge and signature line reflect its performance-oriented, RWD architecture
• 20-inch alloy wheels

New Rhodium White exterior colour

Bermaz Motors offers the CX-60 in five colour options - including the new Rhodium White shade. This unique shade is the latest addition to the automaker’s range of signature body colours, developed using the brand’s advanced Takuminuri painting technology. It stands out from traditional white finishes with its hard, metallic shine and densely packed reflective particles, offering a rich and refined texture.

Other than Rhodium White, the SUV is offered in four more shades - Soul Red Crystal, Jet Black, Zircon Sand, and Platinum Quartz.

2.5L NA petrol engine

While the CX-60 comes with a variety of engine options (including 2.5 L PHEV, 3.3 L Turbo‑petrol I‑6 mild‑hybrid, 3.0 L e‑Skyactiv‑X I‑6 mild‑hybrid, 3.3 L Turbo‑diesel I‑6 mild‑hybrid) across different markets, Malaysia is expected to get the road tax-friendly pure ICE mill, just like Singapore. 

The variant name suggests a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated Skyactiv-G inline-four petrol engine capable of delivering a maximum power of 191 PS at  6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 261 Nm at 3,000 rpm. It comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels.

The RWD is quite a rare sight in the segment, making the CX-60 stand out for buyers seeking a more balanced, driver-oriented SUV.

Plush cabin 

Competing head-to-head with premium German SUVs such as BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, the Mazda CX-60 has a plush cabin with high-quality materials and textures. From woven textiles to maple wood trims and modern technology, the interior emphasizes spaciousness and functionality.

The setup is paired with an innovative Kinematic Posture Control system that employs the brakes to stabilise the car during turns and rough terrain, promising a smooth driving experience.
