Meet Proton’s new online music streaming service, the Joox Music

KUALA LUMPUR: From March 27, i.e., today, Proton has moved its online music streaming service to Joox Music. The previously available service, the Unlimited Music, operations will suspend on March 31, midnight.

The company has released an Over-The-Air (OTA) update for the Exora Premium, Persona Premium, Iriz Premium, and X70 models.

If you are not aware of Joox Music, it is a free music streaming platform with over 30 million songs in its library. To access it, all you need to do is open the Joox Music app on your smartphone and then pair it with your car’s infotainment system. You can also curate your own playlist from the songs available on Joox.

Here’s how the Over-The-Air (OTA) update process works -

  • When you’ll start the car, an update pop-up will appear within 30 seconds, prompting the availability of a new GKUI version
  • In order to download the update, click on ‘Go to upgrade’
  • The update patch will then automatically download
  • Next, click on to ‘Update now’, followed by ‘Confirm update’
  • The system will automatically restart, once the installation is complete
  • Lastly, select the ‘Setting’ icon on the homepage and then go on to ‘Restore factory settings’ to restart the head unit
  • Congratulations, you are on the Version 2.6.5 (F9)

One thing you should remember at all times is not to switch off the engine during the entire process. Also, note that all the previous settings and data will be erased, including radio/music preferences, personal settings for Baidu offline maps, Bluetooth devices, and others.

Now that your car is all ready for the fantastic music, the one thing that requires to be done is downloading the Joox Music app from the App Store or Google Play, followed by registration and login. Done? Now check for the Joox icon on the car’s infotainment unit; on clicking it, a QR code will appear. Scan the QR code via the Joox mobile app and you are good to go.
