Mercedes-Benz S 560 e plug-in hybrid is here, priced at RM 658,888

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently when we informed you about the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQ Power models. Well, today Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launched the S 560 e plug-in hybrid model. Thus, taking the S-Class range to two cars - S450 L and S 560 e plug-in hybrid.

The said EQ-based Merc model was first introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, and next it was launched in Europe in October 2018. The Malaysian-spec model is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol mill that churns out a maximum power of 362 hp and 500 Nm of peak torque. The electric motor, on the other hand, offers 121 hp and 440 Nm. The total system output stands at 469 hp and 700 Nm. As for the performance figures, this all-electric sedan can complete the 0 to 100 kmph run in 5 seconds and displays a top speed of 250 kmph.

The electric motor can be found together with the torque converter and clutch that rests within the gearbox. Speaking of transmission, the S 560 e plug-in hybrid gets a reworked 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic unit. As per the sedan’s specs sheet, it has an all-electric range of 50 km which is a noticeable hike over the earlier 30 km range. This substantial increase in the driving range is attributed to the improved battery capacity. The car now features a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery over the 6.2 kWh unit. Also, the new unit comes along with 37 Ah lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt (Li-NMC) cells.

The Mercedes-Benz S 560 e is priced at RM 658,888 and is available in seven color options - Selenite Grey, Iridium Silver, Obsidian Black, Magnetite Black, Cavansite Blue, Diamond Silver, and a designo splash called Diamond White Bright.
