New 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor to be unveiled on 22nd Feb

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only late last year that Ford launched the new Ranger and now it’s about time to take things to the next level with the debut of the next-gen Ranger Raptor.

Ford News Europe YouTube channel recently posted a brand new teaser video of the upcoming next-gen Ranger Raptor showing vehicle prototype testing in full swing. Apart from the car zooming in full speed over rough rural terrains, the teaser also reveals that the Bajaj-ready off-road pickup will make its debut on 22nd February, 2022.

As can be seen, the teaser shows a camouflaged prototype of the flagship Ranger hiding most of its design details. However, we can definitely see a chunky front and rear fenders, increased ground clearance over the ongoing Ranger (thanks to the massive tyres & reworked suspension geometry), and enhanced underbody protection.

In addition, the bonnet and grille also seems new and the bumpers redesigned. Note there are assumptions based on the teaser and we should wait for the office launch for confirmation.

The full roll cage and the bucket seats seen in the video are obviously for testing purposes. The production-ready model is expected to feature a comfortable cabin with modern amenities.

Powertrain details?

Ford is yet to share any mechanical specifications, however, from the sound we hear in the teaser, chances of a petrol-powered unit seems high.

Rumours also suggest chances of an Ecoboost V6 turbo mill either from the Explorer (3.0-litre V6 turbo) or from the Bronco (a 2.7-litre twin-turbo unit).

As for transmission, the engine is expected to be coupled to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, same like the previous gen model.

Overall, the all-new Ford Ranger Raptor would offer everything more over the standard Ranger pickup. That will translate to more power, enhanced luxury, better safety, and higher price point as well.
