New Megane R.S. teased on Renault Malaysia’s website

KUALA LUMPUR: A teaser image of the all-new Megane R.S. has surfaced on the Renault Malaysia official website. The new-generation hot hatch was revealed back in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Moreover, a hotter variant of this car, named Megane R.S. Trophy is also available and was introduced in July last year.

The teaser image that is being flaunted on the website shows the vehicle with glowing daytime running lights and is concealed in an R.S. marked cover. Apart from the four-wheeler itself, the page also asserted that it is ‘coming soon’, which precisely means that the Malaysian market is to receive this street runner in the near future.

The latest generation Megane R.S. (unveiled in 2017) is an enticing sport car with ample aggressiveness on its outfit. Whereas for its heart, it gets a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine that churns a maximum power of 280 hp and a peak torque of 390 Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission system that transmits power to the front wheels. Renault also offers an option of six-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission layout with the car.

On the other hand, its hotter variant, the R.S. trophy (launched in 2018) is powered by the same 1.8-litre turbocharged engine but hooks the figure up with 300 hp of power and 400 Nm of maximum torque for the six-speed manual transmission and 420 Nm for the six-speed EDC transmission.

Megane R.S. Trophy gets ‘Cup Chassis’ package as standard. It coasts on 19-inch wheels, which receives grooved bi-material brake discs as the braking layout. Inside there is a centre screen that supports Carplay and Android Auto. Thereafter, one has the option to choose between leather and Alcantara wrapped steering wheels.

Offering an appreciable degree of comfort, the carmaker has also given the car the usual MacPherson strut at the front and multi-link suspension on the rear.

It is expected that Renault Malaysia may introduce the Trophy version instead of the regular Megane hatch. For more info, one can only wait for the company to throw some lights on the upcoming vehicle.
