Next-gen Audi A6 to be launched by H1 of 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: The Audi A6 is one of the most popular sedans from the German luxury brand and has always been an epitome of comfort. However, the 8th generation of the A6 will be having a sportier stance and would be extremely aggressive, though the company will still retain the comfort within the cabin.

The 8th generation of the Audi A6 was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show and is expected to be launched in most of the countries soon. However, the launch in Malaysia could happen sometime towards the early part of 2019.

The new Audi A6 is sportier than the outgoing model and has a lower slung to make it look more aggressive and muscular. Not only is the sedan low swung, the headlamps and the front grille is placed lower than the current generation model. The rear is more detailed and sporty, especially the thin chrome line that passes across the rear panel to the taillights.

Another fact about the Audi is that this A6 could well be the last car from the German automaker to be pinned on the MLB Evo platform architecture as it would be moved on to the more rear-biased Porsche’s platform. However, the company believes that the new sporty approach to the A6 may help is bridging the gap and also help in the smooth transformation of the propulsion mechanism.

Under the hood of the upcoming A6, Audi would be using the same engine that powers the current generation model. The Malaysian-spec model uses a 1.8-litre TFSI engine which is capable of making a maximum power of 190 bhp and comes mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox. Moreover, the Quattro AWD mechanism is also expected to be carried over from the current model. The new facelifted model will be capable of hitting 100 kmph from a standstill in just 7.9 seconds.

It is to be noted that the upcoming Audi A6 would be getting both air suspension and coil suspension based on the country it is sold in. So now, it is to be seen which of the two the company chooses for the Malaysian market.
