Nissan, Mazda and Porsche Winners of the First ASEAN Car of the Year (ACOTY)

Kuala Lumpur: Nissan, Mazda and Porsche were the leaders of the inaugural 2015 ASEAN Car of the Year (ACOTY) award in held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening. ACOTY is first of its kind non-profit event in the ASEAN region, which was organized for the first time in joint efforts of motoring journalists hailing from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

The German engineered Porsche Macan was declared as the overall winner of the inaugural award ceremony. Whereas, the Japanese car Mazda 2 scored the second position at the event and Nissan's X-Trail rounded up at the third position.

The performance of the vehicles was judged under the supervision of 9 motoring journalists from Malaysia, 6 from Thailand, and another 7 from Indonesia who evaluated the vehicle's product appeal. Besides that, Opal Auto Mart, an aftermarket warranty service provider evaluated the brand's reliability on the grounds of its huge database of servicing and customer experience data. Liberty Insurance company provided scores to the vehicles on the depreciation values. Apart from all this, public voting was also conducted on the basis of their user experience, sales satisfaction and after sales experiences.

Mr. Bobby Ang , Secretary, 2015 ACOTY said at the award presentation ceremony, “With ASEAN’s growing importance in the global automotive industry landscape, it is important to create a bridge of acknowledgement for this region in the form of an automotive awards program to translate market needs towards the effort of car makers operating in this region.

ACOTY is striving hard to make the awards distribution as transparent as possible, as a part of which the organisers have made additional efforts to provide complete details of the score breakdown for finalists of each award category. These scores can be viewed by the public on caroftheyear.asia website from next week.
