Perodua-Bank Rakyat Credit Card-i launched with 5x points on fuel, EV charging and maintenance

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua and Bank Rakyat have introduced the Perodua-Bank Rakyat Credit Card-i, with rewards focused on the bills that come with owning a car. Fuel, EV charging, vehicle maintenance and takaful purchases all earn five times reward points.

The partnership is Perodua’s first credit card collaboration with a banking institution. Rewards can be converted and redeemed through the Perodua P-Circle mobile app, linking the card to the carmaker’s existing platform.

For Malaysian motorists, the reward is earning extra points on recurring vehicle expenses. How much those points are worth when redeemed, however, is not detailed in the announcement.

Alongside the five-times points on the automotive spending categories mentioned above, the card comes with:

• No annual fee
• 0% overseas transaction fees
• Complimentary takaful coverage for total outstanding balances of up to RM300,000, up to the age of 70
• RM1,000 Khairat Kematian, or bereavement benefit

Buyers can also choose between two card designs: one inspired by the Perodua QV-E, and another featuring TIRA, a character from the animation film featured on P-Circle.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, said the company appreciated Bank Rakyat’s support in bringing the partnership together.

“This launch is a significant milestone for us as it marks the first time we have partnered with a banking institution to introduce a Credit Card-i. We will also be running a special campaign to encourage our customers to apply for the Credit Card-i through exclusive Perodua Package offers,” he said.

Details of those Perodua Package offers, including what they include and when the campaign will run, were not provided in the announcement.

Meanwhile, Bank Rakyat Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff said, “The strategic collaboration with Perodua reflects Bank Rakyat’s approach towards building an ecosystem that provides customers with more comprehensive value and rewards through the combined strengths of Islamic banking and the automotive industry.
