Chery Malaysia says NKVE crash caused SUV’s wheels to detach

KUALA LUMPUR: A road user’s video showing a Chery SUV with its front right and rear left wheels detached prompted questions about the brand’s build quality today. Chery Auto Malaysia has since attributed the damage to an accident on the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) on 7 November.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What did Chery Malaysia say caused the wheels to detach?

Chery attributed both the detached wheels and the front bumper damage caused by an accident on 7 November 2026. It ruled out component failure in its statement.
  • The SUV in the footage appears to be a Tiggo Cross, although Chery did not name the model in its statement. By the time the road user filmed the scene, both wheels were already off. The clip gives viewers a clear look at the damage, but leaves open the question at the centre of the online debate. At what point did the wheels come away?

“We wish to clarify that the damage to the front bumper and detachment of the wheels were a result of the accident and not due to a failure of the vehicle’s component parts,” Chery Auto Malaysia said.

Seeing two wheels detached from opposite corners of an SUV is reason enough for owners to ask what happened. The footage alone offers little basis for a broader judgement about the build quality of the Tiggo Cross.

The video picks up after the crash, so it’s worth being careful about the conclusions we draw from it. For the owner, there’s also the very practical worry of what happens next with a badly damaged car. They deserve some consideration while they deal with that.

Chery said it had contacted the customer involved and was providing assistance. It also asked the public to avoid circulating unverified information. Owners with questions can reach the Chery Careline on 03-9388 0888.
