Rally-prepped Mitsubishi Ralliart Triton AXCR makes successful racing debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Unveiled this year in March, the Mitsubishi Ralliart Triton AXCR has proved its rally readiness. How? The rally-prepped car in its racing debut at the Asia Cross Country Rally 2022 proved its worth by taking the first spot.

The fast and resilient Mitsubishi truck numbered #105 completed the rally in 8 hours, 22 minutes, and 42 seconds and was driven by Chayapon Yotha and co-driver Peerapong Sombutwang. Also present was a second model with the number #118 and it acquired the fifth position overall.

Based on the stock Mitsubishi Triton/L200, the rally-prepared model showcased several, much-needed modifications. For instance -

• Lifted suspension
• Underbody protection
• A snorkel
• Off-road tires
• Two full-size spare wheels mounted on the rear bed
• Racing livery

As for the Asia Cross Country Rally 2022, the cross-country rally event takes place in Asia and spans a period of 6 days. The course includes dirt, tarmac, and mud terrains with the teams also required to cross rivers, deserts, swamps, and jungles.

Yotha better explained the course saying, “It was a very tough battle over the six days, but I am very happy to take the overall victory. In order to win among rivals with larger engine displacements, I concentrated on reducing mistakes thoroughly and completing each corner and stage carefully.”

For those who aren’t aware, the Ralliart made a return to motorsport with Asia Cross Country Rally 2022 and the win has only added to its motivation. “This was our first attempt to return to the motorsports scene under the name of Ralliart, and it was a very important rally for Mitsubishi Motors”, said Hiroshi Masuoka, team director and 21-time participant and two-time champion of Dakar Rally.
