This is Chery’s first electric pickup truck, the Himla

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery has launched its first-ever electric pickup truck, the Himla, in China. As the company’s sub-brand, Himla represents its first dedicated pickup series as part of the automaker’s expansion into the light truck segment. Notably, Himla is the global nameplate, while in China, the sub-brand is called Rely.

Price 

Built on a body-on-frame construction, the Himla EV (or Rely R08) is offered in six variants, with prices ranging from CNY 127,800 (RM 72k) to CNY 158,800 (RM 90k).

Dimensions 

Against the measuring tape, this latest Chinese electric pickup truck measures 5,330 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,890 mm in height, in its standard form. For those who want extra cargo space, there is also a ‘Long-box’ version, which measures 5,610 mm in length and has a deeper cargo bed. 

Drivetrain, range, and charging 

The Chery Himla EV comes in two drivetrain options - RWD and AWD. Key specifications are as follows -

As for the battery packs, there are two options - 66.54-kWh and 88-kWh, offering a cruising range of between 405 and 510 km, depending on the configuration..

Design and features

The EV boasts a bold and functional look with a huge polygonal grille at the front, integrating with honeycomb-patterned elements. Adding to its sturdy and imposing appearance is a full LED headlight assembly, 18-inch black-finish wheels and a 265 mm ground clearance. 

The interior features soft materials used throughout the car, with the dashboard wrapped in suede-like material for a smooth and soft feel. 

Key features include a15.6-inch infotainment unit, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane keep assist.

Under the new sub-brand, Chery has plans to roll out a wide range of pickup trucks, covering multiple drivetrain options (including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric).
