Toyota Land Cruiser ‘Namib’ Edition arrives in South Africa
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota has come up with a brand-new special Land Cruiser Namib edition in South Africa to celebrate 35 successful years of the durable Toyota J70 platform. The automaker had launched the car a week ago. The Land Cruiser 79 takes inspiration from the Namib Desert, which is present in Southern Africa.
Designing wise, the Land Cruiser Namib edition comes with a massive steel front bumper painted in black having the ARB-branded LED spot-lamps. Moreover, there is a black mesh grille that gets the “Toyota” lettering, and the ‘Namib’ exterior badges along with the “inner-skin” lining are present on the load-bay.
As per Calvyn Hamman, the sales and marketing vice president of Toyota SA," the vehicle is intended to offer customers a ready-to-go vehicle prepared and equipped to tackle the most daunting challenges.”
The car rides on 16-inch wheels wrapped in 265/75 R16 sized, LX V8 tyres. The uprated suspension is present under the rugged fenders along with the Old Man Emu shocks.
Inside the cabin, the layout is much similar to the Toyota Hilux. Furthermore, it is packed with a plethora of modern features. The Land Cruiser Namib edition’s interior is available in two different colour options - Sand Beige and Ivory White.
The Land Cruiser Namib edition is powered by a 4.5-litre engine, which can make a maximum power of 202 hp. It can provide an impressive torque of 429.8 Nm, which comes at a rev range of 1,200 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Land Cruiser Namib edition price starts from RM 254,000. However, it is not clear whether the Land Cruiser Namib edition will hit to the Malaysian shores or not.
