Volkswagen Arteon will now cost RM9k more

KUALA LUMPUR: While going through our general OEM check, we noticed a slight revision on the VW Malaysia’s website. What’s that you ask? Well, the VW Arteon price list showed a significant hike of RM 9K, its price tag now reading RM 258,019 on-the-road without insurance.

The revised price figure as expected includes SST exemption, valid until June 30th 2021. Also, each purchase will be accompanied by a 5-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and a 3-year/45,000 km free service package.

So, what’s new/extra comes along with Arteon’s hiked price tag?

Nothing. The extra money doesn’t come along with any new equipment or performance enhancement bit.

What’s on offer?

Performance

Same as before. Volkswagen’s five-door coupe is offered in a single variant option in the local market, i.e., 2.0 TSI 4Motion R-line.

It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that as before continues to generate a maximum power of 280 PS from 5,100 to 6,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,700 and 5,600 rpm.

Like before, the power is transmitted to the all-four wheels via a 7-speed DSG wet dual-clutch transmission.

On the performance front, the VW sedan hits the century mark in just 5.6 seconds.

Taking care of the entertainment needs is a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment touchscreen with gesture control with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Part of the kit is a 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system and 12-speakers.

As expected, the Arteon packs a strong safety kit including seven airbags, stability control, and blind spot monitoring. It still misses out on basic features like autonomous emergency braking , lane centring assist, and adaptive cruise control that we’d expect in a car like the Arteon.
