12th-gen Toyota Corolla launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new 12th generation Toyota Corolla has been launched in Malaysia by UMW Toyota Motor, the official Toyota distributor of the country.

2019 Toyota Corolla made its global launch at Guangzhou Motor Show, China in 2018. And around one year later the Malaysian market gets the new Corolla in two variants - 1.8E and the range-topping 1.8G. This model will sport the Corolla logo on its front grill while it will carry the Altis badge at the rear.

Malaysian customers can choose the Corolla in five exterior finishes - White Pearl Crystal Shine, Red Mica Metallic, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic, and Celestite Grey Metallic. You have to shell out an additional RM 800 if you choose to drive home the White Pearl Crytal Shine.

2019 Corolla specs sheet tells that it is powered by the 2ZR-FE 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the trusted workhorse of Toyota. It is equipped with the traditional Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that does not support flex-fuel.

This engine has been designed to churn out 139 PS (137 hp) at 6,400 rpm and torque of 173Nm generated at 4,000 rpm. The power will be transmitted to the front wheels through Shiftmatic CVT gearbox that provides the option of seven virtual speeds. There will be two powertrain alternatives viz. Sport and Eco.

The dimension of the car has also been revised. The new Corolla measures 4,630 mm in length (10 mm+), 1,780 mm in width (5 mm+), and 1,435 mm (45 mm less). The wheelbase remains unaltered at 2,700 mm.

Interior of the new Corolla would sport a 4.2 inch TFT LCD screen and a 6.8 touch screen display. 2019 Corolla 1.8G, in addition, would have black leather upholstery, 17-inch alloy wheels, electronic parking brake, Optitron meter and a 3D panoramic view monitor.

In terms of safety, the 1.8E and 1.8G will boast of key safety measures such as seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS with EBD. However, 1.8G will also have the Toyota Safety Sense suite that contains Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitor.

New Corolla price tag for 1.8 G trim reads RM 136,888 (without insurance), while the lowest variant, 1.8E costs RM 128,888.
